One of the great joys of being a kid was turning all the massive leftover cardboard boxes from household appliances into spacious forts or magical pieces of furniture. Sometimes, the discarded cardboard gems were transformed into televisions, houses, tables and cards. The incredibly imaginative company, Chairigami has decided to turns all those childhood innovations into a successful company. And yes: chairigami is exactly what it sounds like.

Chairigami

Located in Connecticut, just 18 miles from Navis Pack & Ship Bridgeport, Chairigami is an inventive manufacturer of furniture that is entirely made of cardboard. The eco-friendly company stresses the importance of minimal waste, as each item is hand crafted from renewable resources. In case you’re worried that the pieces might not be able to handle the same weight as everyday furniture, the company uses cardboard known as Triple Wall, a formative three ply material. The items are easily collapsible, require very little assembly and are ideal for office or apartment settings.

The company prides itself on offering low maintenance items that that radiate a strong and simple beauty. Every piece available at Chairigami is made in house at their New Haven location and the expansive list of available items in their inventory is incredibly impressive by any standard. The company features three types of chairs, one of which morphs into a shelf. And a cardboard sofa might sound like something that only a magical IKEA wizard could create, but Chairigami perfected a surprisingly comfortable design weighing only 18 pounds. Moving will never be the same again!

The company also offers two kinds of desks and a coffee table that would perfectly fill any living room. Arguably some of the most creative looking pieces in the Chairigami inventory are their multilayered and smoothly stackable shelving units. All of the furniture is shockingly cheap generally staying in the $65-180 range; if you are ordering in bulk the company will gladly offer a generous quote.

So what do you think? Is cardboard furniture the future?
