Born August 4th, 1922 Charley Harper was an avid conservationist and reveled in all things nature. He grew on a farm in West Virginia and graduated from the Cincinnati Art Academy. Harper’s life on the farm clearly influenced all of this work and his experiences are reflected in his art. He is considered an American Modernist artist and he is most known for wildlife masterpieces. Charley Parker’s work included illustrating several books including The Golden Book of Biology, posters, prints and magazine.
The city of Cincinnati is forever indebted Harper’s work so much so that December 8th, 2006 was declared by the mayor of Cincinnati as official “Charley Harper Day.” Harper’s influence can be seen in several modern designers and is reflected in numerous National Park Services posters.
