Navis Pack & Ship of Bridgeport, CT relishes opportunities to ship antiques. They recently packed and shipped a 1940 Philco Floor Model Console radio for a customer that inherited the radio from his Grandparents and needed to ship it to his home in Illinois. He had just recently restored it through the services of Antique Radio Restoration, the largest restorer of antique radios in the world, after searching  for a restorer for the past 5 years. The owner, Bob Eslinger,  worked closely with Navis Pack & Ship of Bridgeport on this project and was very helpful in discussing the unique packaging needs of the radio.

Below is a photograph of the radio and a testimonial from the satisfied customer.

My antique radio is a Philco Floor Model Console radio model number 40-165.   It was manufactured in 1940 as indicated by the first two digits in the model number.  I have been told that Philco is one of the only radio manufacturers that would put the year as part of the model number.   My grandparents purchased the radio new at a local hardware and appliance store in Illinois.   It was placed in a prominent spot in their kitchen.  My mother (their daughter) always remembers the radio being in that spot.  She listened to it and I remember playing around it as a kid.  Although, I only heard it play a handful of times.   Most likely, the radio had not worked since the late 1980s or early 1990s.  After my grandmother passed away, I inherited the radio in 2005.  I had it for about 5 years before I was able to find a restorer that could repair the radio.  The restorer was located in NorthEast Connecticut and, unfortunately,  I moved from Rhode Island to Chicago, Illinois before the work was completed.  I was afraid getting the radio to Illinois would be a costly hassle.   However, I was referred to Navis by my local mover who stated he would trust them to handle the move.  I liked the fact that Navis was able to work directly with the restorer regarding the shipment and their expertise in handling delicate items was a plus.  The radio arrived right on time and in perfect condition.  In addition, the cost was lower than quotes from other specialty movers.  Thanks to the restorer and Navis, the radio looks and plays as if brand new now in my home.

Thanks again for all your help,
Jason
