Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. The Washington metropolitan area, of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.8 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.

Washington DC is also home to many of the nations top museums, such as the Smithsonian, Art Museum of the Americas, International Spy Museum, National Air & Space Museum, and National Gallery of Art.
